Video Tutorial
Materials
- Yarn – any yarn! I used Crafting Acrylic in 3 colors. About 10 g orange, 5 g brown, 10 g white
- Hook – 5 mm (I use these!) or recommended hook
- Tapestry needle – to weave in the ends
- Scissors – to cut your yarn
- Stitch Markers (optional)
- Blocking Board (optional but HIGHLY recommended)
Gauge
The finished square will measure about 4.5 x 4.5 inches.
**Gauge is not crucial to this pattern.
Abbreviations
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
dec = decrease
inc = increase
st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space
mc = magic circle
Important Pattern Notes
- This pattern is worked in rounds
- The finished size may vary slightly depending on yarn weight and tension
- Colors change during the last yarn over of the final stitch before the color change
- Starting chain on each round does not count as a stitch
- Stitch count listed at the end of each round is in parentheses
- You can use any yarn and corresponding hook size to achieve your desired square size

Pumpkin Granny Square Pattern
Round 1: With Orange, make magic circle, ch 2 (does not count as stitch here & throughout pattern) then make 16 dc in magic circle. Sl st into the first dc to join. (16 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2, starting in the same st, dc increase in each st around. Sl st into the first dc to join. (32 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc inc, sc, dc inc, (dc, dc inc) x 6, sc, sc inc, sc, dc inc, (dc, dc inc) x 6. Sl st to the first sc to join, switch to Brown on the sl st to change colors. (48 sts)
Round 4: Ch 2, starting in the same stitch, dc x 4, switch to White on the last pull through to change colors. Dc x 4, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same st, dc x 2, hdc, sc x 4, hdc, dc x 2, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same st, dc x 2, hdc x 2, dc x 4, hdc x 2, dc x 2, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same st, dc x 2, hdc, sc x 4, hdc, dc x 2, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same st, dc x 4. Sl st to join. (60 sts, 4 ch-2 corner spaces)
Round 5: Ch 2, starting in the same stitch, dc dec x 2, dc x 6, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc x 14, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc x 6, dc dec x 2, dc x 6, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc x 14, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc x 6. Sl st to join and fasten off. (80 sts, 4 ch-2 corner spaces)
