So Cozy Baby Blanket – Free Pattern

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Today I am sharing with you my FREE pattern for my So Cozy Baby Blanket. This blanket has made its appearance as a backdrop in my content for yarn unboxings and project staging since its sooo cute and the perfect neutral. The checkboard pattern is so subtle but still impressive. Its made out of the softest yarn ever and since it is a bulky weight, it works up incredibly fast for it’s size!

The blanket is crocheted using modified double crochet, working in the front and back posts. It is a lot easier that it sounds and I will walk you through how to do them step-by-step! It’s actually a lot easier to crochet with this fluffy yarn by using the posts instead of working into the stitches – that might be impossible since its so hard to see, but EASY to FEEL. I will have links to recommended yarn for you to choose from so you can pick whichever brand and color you like.

Ch = Chain

Important Pattern Notes

  • This pattern uses US crochet terms.
  • This yarn is a little difficult to see the stitches/chains as you work on the first row. However, each row after can be made by feeling the stitches and crocheting around the “posts”. It may be helpful to you to add stitch markers while working your first row.
  • Turning ch does not count as a stitch.
  • Stitch count in () parentheses at the end of each row.

Size

Width: 90 cm / 35.4”

Length: 83 cm / 32.8”

Special Stitches

This pattern uses Front Post Double Crochet and Back Post Double Crochet, which is a double crochet worked around the “post” of the stitch, instead of in the “v”.

Front Post Double Crochet (Fpdc): Yarn over, insert your hook from the front of your work, around the post of the stitch from the previous row and back out the front, then finish the double crochet as normal.

Back Post Double Crochet (Bpdc): Yarn over, insert your hook from the back of your work, around the post of the stitch from the previous row and back out the back, then finish the double crochet as normal.
