Featuring a lightweight open lace design inspired by classic spiderweb motifs and designed with a beginner-friendly stitch pattern, this project works up quick and looks intricate. Wear it as a headscarf, bandana, or little layering piece for fall outfits and spooky season!
This pattern is size graded for an Adult but you can easily adjust it by adding/removing rows! I will walk you through how to make your adjustments easily. I made my white one with a worsted acrylic yarn and the blue one was made out of a DK wool. You can really use any yarn and hook you want! I made the blue one for my toddler (Spidey style since she’s really into that right now) using the same pattern and it fit her just fine 🙂

Important Pattern Notes
- This pattern uses US crochet terms.
- This pattern is worked in rows
- You will work the bandana from the middle outwards, then you will add a picot border and ties all using a continuous strand of yarn
- This pattern is size graded, however there are also made-to-measure instructions so you could use any yarn/hook you like.
- The finished size may vary slightly depending on yarn weight and tension
Special Stitch
This pattern uses Picot which is simply 3 chains and a slip stitch.
Picot: chain 3 and then insert hook into the third chain from hook and make a slip stitch. This creates a cluster of chains on top of your work.

Let’s get started!

Spider Web Bandana Pattern
Row 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 4, (this counts as a dc + ch 1), (dc + ch 1) 3 times in the magic ring, then make a final dc into the ring. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)

Row 2: Turn. Ch 6 (counts as a dc + ch 3), (dc + ch 3) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 4. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)

Row 3: Turn. Ch 8 (counts as a dc + ch 5), (dc + ch 5) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 6. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)

Row 4: Turn. Ch 10 (counts as a dc + ch 7), (dc + ch 7) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 8. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 5: Turn. Ch 12 (counts as a dc + ch 9), (dc + ch 9) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 10. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 6: Turn. Ch 14 (counts as a dc + ch 11), (dc + ch 11) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 12. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 7: Turn. Ch 16 (counts as a dc + ch 13), (dc + ch 13) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 14. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 8: Turn. Ch 18 (counts as a dc + ch 15), (dc + ch 15) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 16. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 9: Turn. Ch 20 (counts as a dc + ch 17), (dc + ch 17) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 18. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 10: Turn. Ch 22 (counts as a dc + ch 19), (dc + ch 19) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 20. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 11: Turn. Ch 24 (counts as a dc + ch 21), (dc + ch 21) in each dc from the last round, then make a final dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 22. (5 dc, 4 ch sp)
Row 12 (final row): Turn. Ch 3, picot, ch 23, (dc, picot, ch 23) in each dc from the last round, then make a final (dc + picot) into the 3rd ch of the ch 24. (5 dc, 5 picot, 4 ch sp)

Now you will make the first tie. Ch 50, sc in the first ch from hook and all the way down.
Work along the straight edge of your bandana. Sc evenly across. You will be working into the raw side of the stitches.
When you get to the end, make the next tie. Ch 50, sc in the first ch from hook and all the way back. Sl st to join and fasten off yarn. I highly recommend blocking your bandana at this point!

Spider Applique:
Round 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 3, (this counts as a dc), dc 11 times in the magic ring, then sl st to the ch 3 to join. (12 dc)

Round 2: *Ch 6, sc in second ch from hook and in the next ch, 2 sc into the next ch, sc in the last 2 chs. Sl st to the next dc. Repeat from * 3 more times.

Slip st into the next dc then *ch 7, sc in second ch from hook and in the next ch, sc dec, sc in the last 2 chs. Sl st to the next dc. Repeat from * 3 more times. Cut yarn leaving an extra long tail to use to sew onto the bandana.

Sew spider onto your bandana, weave in your ends, and you’re done!
You’re all done!
