Materials
- Yarn – any yarn! I used about 375 g of Rainbow Cotton 8/4 from Hobbii in Black (009) & about 25 g of Rainbow Cotton 8/8 in Antique Rose (061), Light Sky Blue (071), Natural White (002), Pastel Yellow (053) & Pastel Mint (025)
- Hook – 4 mm (I use these!)
- Tapestry needle – to weave in the ends
- Scissors – to cut your yarn
- Stitch Markers
- Measuring Tape
Gauge
16 st x 9 rows of dc = 4’ x 4’ (10 x 10 cm)
**Gauge is not crucial to this pattern if you are using made-to-measure method. Don’t stress over it!

Important Pattern Notes
- This pattern uses US crochet terms.
- This pattern is worked side to side in one panel. Then you’ll seam up the sleeves & add ribbing (optional).
- This pattern is size graded, however you can make-to-measure also & use any yarn/hook you like.
- I recommend blocking your gauge swatch & shrug.
- Stitch count in parentheses reflect the amount for each size (XS/S, M/L, XL/2X, 3X/4X)
Sizes
This is a graded pattern designed to be worn loosely with flowy sleeves. If between sizes, size up. Custom measurement instructions are just below.

Estimates above are based on using weight 1 yarn and my same gauge. However, if you wanted to use another size yarn and hook you should be able to follow the measurements or take your own measurements and achieve your desired custom sweater with the made-to-measure method.
Custom Measurements
A – Measure from your shoulder to your waist or hip, wherever you want your shrug to hit. Then add 4-6 inches. Add more inches if you want a more oversized fit.
B – Measure from wrist to wrist and add 2-4 inches.
C – Measure from wrist to armpit and subtract 1-2 inches.
D – Subtract C from B twice.

Let’s get started!
Written Pattern
Row 1: Using Black. Ch (100, 110, 120, 130) + 3 or until you reach measurement A. If you’re using a thicker yarn your starting ch will likely be less chains. Dc in the 4th chain from hook & in each chain across.
Row 2: Ch 3 and turn (counts as a dc). Dc in each stitch.
Repeat row 2 until you have (120, 124, 128, 132) rows total, or until you reach measurement B. Fasten off yarn.

Seaming
Lay out your panel and fold it long ways.
From the corner, count 32 rows and add a stitch marker there. Do the same on both sides. This will be where you seam your sleeve closed.
If you are using custom measurements, measure from the edge inwards using your measurement C. Add a stitch marker here and do the same on both sides.
You can seam this however you like. I chose to do a sc seam. Attach your yarn to the first stitch on the edge of your sleeve. Make a sc by inserting your hook through the stitches on both panels, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through. Sc down the sleeve evenly as best as you can until you reach the stitch marker. Then fasten off yarn. Do the same for the other side.

Ribbing
Flip your shrug right side out & attach your yarn to the sleeve cuff near the join, so it can be easily hidden.
Row 1: Ch 1 and sc in the same stitch. Sc decrease all the way around. Sl st to the first st to join.
Row 2: Ch 1 and sc in the same stitch. Sc decrease all the way around again. Sl st to the first stitch to join.
Row 3: Ch 6, or however long you want your cuff to be. Sc in the second chain from hook and in the next 4 chains. Sl st into the next sc on the sleeve, and sl st again to the next sc.

Row 4: Turn. Skip the 2 slip stitches and work back in the cuff. Sc blo in the next 5 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 5: Sc blo in each if the 5 stitches. Sl st into the next sc in the sleeve, and sl st again to the next sc.
Repeat row 4 & 5 all the way around. Then fasten off your yarn with a long tail and use that tail to seam your ribbing cuff closed, working on the “wrong side” or the inside so your seam is hidden.

Do the same for the other sleeve.
Details
Now your shrug is almost done & ready to add flowers to! Only one more final detail is to sc around the opening.
Attach your yarn near the seam of your sleeve. Ch 1, and then sc into the same stitch. Sc around evenly. Sl st to the first st to join. Fasten off yarn.
Flowers
Round 1: Using yellow make the center of your flower. Make a magic circle. Sc 12 into the ring.

Sl st to your first sc using your petal color to join. To do this, insert your hook through the sc, and pull up a loop with your new color. Pull through the loop on your hook and cut the yellow yarn.

Round 2: Ch 3. Yarn over, insert hook into the same st, and pull up a long loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook.

Yarn over, insert hook into the same st again, and pull up a long loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook.

Repeat one more time. Yarn over, insert hook into the same st again, and pull up a long loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook. You should have 4 loops on your hook still.

Now work into the next st. Yarn over, insert hook into the next st , and pull up a long loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook. Repeat 2 more times working in to the same stitch. Then yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on your hook.

Ch 3, then sl st into the same stitch. You have completed 1 petal. You can now push if forward to from the puff.

*Ch 3, yarn over, insert hook into the next st, and pull up a long loop.
Now work into the next st. Yarn over, insert hook into the next st , and pull up a long loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook. Repeat 2 more times working in to the same stitch. Then yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on your hook. Ch 3, then sl st into the same stitch

Repeat from * 4 more times to make 6 petals total. Then fasten off yarn with a long tail about 10 inches so you can used that to attach your flowers to your shrug. Make sure your magic ring in the center of your flower is tied off/weaved in & secured.

Attaching
Make as many flowers as you want! I ended up with 13 total.
Use the tails of your flowers to attach to your shrug. I recommend tying a loose knot at first, or attaching with stitch markers so you can try it on and see how you like the placement.
Adjust if needed. I tried to place mine evenly around the mid section of the back and avoided the under arms/ under part of the sleeves.

After you are happy with the placement, use a needle and the long tail of your flowers to sew them onto your shrug.
You will want to make sure you are securing the tops of each petal so they are attached and not floppy.

Weave in all ends and…
You’re all done!
