FREE PATTERN: How To Make a Beautiful Dainty Crochet Hair Bow – Quick and Easy!

Hi there and welcome here! Today I wanted to share one of my favorite quick and easy crochet patterns with you, a beautiful hair bow! You could potentially use this bow for anything you like, including decor or gifting too! Christmas is also around the corner … imagine these bows all over the tree! Okay I am giving myself too many ideas lol. Back to the pattern!

This Free Crochet pattern is VERY beginner friendly. Like if you are just starting to learn how to crochet, or read patterns, this project will be perfect! It consists of simple stitches, like chain, slip stitch, and double crochet, working in a 1 row repeat. You will form rectangles that you will tie together at the end to make the beautiful classic bow shape. I added a bobby pin to the back of mine to secure it to my hair and voila! All done 🙂

I used some scrap yarn that I had laying around “Lion Brand Molaine” which is a 3-ply mohair-like acrylic that is unfortunately discontinued, but you can use any yarn for this pattern! I recommend to stick to using a thinner yarn to keep the drape of the bow.

Now let’s get started on this Free Crochet Hair Bow pattern!

The stitch chart is a visual representation of the instructions that are already written out. If you can’t read the stitch chart, don’t worry, you aren’t missing anything. If you follow the written directions, you will get the correct result. This is just added for people who prefer stitch charts. 🙂

Pattern

Part 1:

Row 1: Chain 12. Dc into the 6th chain from hook (counts as a dc and a ch 1 space). *Ch 1, sk 1 chain, and dc into the next chain. Repeat from * 2 more times. You should end the row on a dc. (5 dc & 4 ch 1 spaces). Tip: you can increase the width of your bow by adding chains in multiples of 2.

Row 2: Chain 4 and turn (counts as a dc and ch 1 space). Skip the first dc and chain 1 space, then dc into the second dc. *Ch 1, sk 1 chain, and dc into the next dc. Repeat from * skipping a chain space and dc into the dc stitch all the way across. End the row by dc into the 3rd chain from the turning ch 4 from the previous row.

Row 3-22: Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off yarn. You should have a dc mesh rectangle for this first part of the bow. Now we will work on the top folded part.

Part 2:

Row 3-20: Repeat Row 2.

Now we will seam the short ends to make a circular shape. You can seam anyway you prefer. I did a slip st seam by inserting my hook through the first st on each end, yarn over, and pull through all loops on hook. Make sure your rectangle is not twisted. Repeat down the row to the end. Fasten off yarn with a long tail about 12 inches.

Connecting Your Bow:

Now we will put the bow together!

Take the circular shape you created in part 2 and move the seam to the middle back. Then take the rectangle you made in part 1 and line up the center of it behind the same seam from part 2. Take your long tail from the seam and wrap it around both panels in the middle very tight, multiple times. Then tie this off (I made a knot with my starting tail from the beginning of part 2) and then weave in your ends!

I slipped two bobby pins through this loop in opposite directions and then you’re ALL DONE!
