High Neck Granny Halter Top | Free Crochet Pattern

🧶🦣 Welcome! 🦣🧶

Today I am sharing this beautiful High Neck Granny Halter top that is so fun for spring and summer. It is a trendy crop-top yet it gives vintage vibes with the granny stitch! This top can be made in different color ways to make it unique to you🤍 The best part of this free pattern is that it works up very quick and has a repetitive rows where you can relax and let your mind wander off. You could probably finish this top in a day or two depending on your speed.

This free crochet pattern can be made with any yarn & any size hook since this just depends on how cropped you want your top to be! This is a great pattern to use up some of that extra scrap yarn that we all have laying around the house. Or if you’re anything like me ~ another excuse to go buy some more! 🤭

Materials

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern uses US crochet terms
  • This top works from the bottom out and is measured to you. Keep going until it is the size you like!
  • I used a smaller hook than what is recommended for the yarn in order to have smaller gaps between stitches
  • I used 3 different colors of yarn (Colors A, B, and C). Play with the colors & have fun 🙂 I used “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby in Brown, White, and Medium Blue.
  • This pattern works up always on the “right side”. Tie off after each row and start again on the right side.

Stitches & Abbreviations:

Sl st = Slip Stitch

Ch = Chain

Sc = single crochet

Dc = Double crochet

Special stitch

DC3tog = double crochet 3 together. This is essentially a decrease creating 1 stitch out of 3. Begin like you would for a normal double crochet. Yarn over, insert hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Then yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook. You should have 2 loops still on your hook. Repeat this process in the next 2 stitches, which will leave an additional loop on your hook at the end each time. You should now have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

PATTERN:

Row 1: use color A. Create a magic circle. Ch 4 (this will count as your first DC + a Ch 1). In the MC, DC 3, Ch 2, DC 3, Ch 1, DC. Tie off yarn and weave ends.

Row 2: Grab color B. Connect into the 3rd made chain of the first Ch 4 from previous row. Ch 4 (counts as DC and a Ch 1 space). DC 3 in the first Ch 1 space. [DC 3, Ch 2, DC 3] in the next Ch 2 space. DC 3 in the next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, DC 1 in the last DC. Tie off yarn and weave ends.

Row 3: Grab color C. Start the same as row 2 by connecting into the 3rd made chain of the first Ch 4 from the previous row. DC 3 in first Ch 1 space. [DC 3] in next space(s). [DC 3, Ch 2, Dc 3] in the next Ch 2 space. [DC 3] in the next space(s). Ch 1, DC 1 in the last DC. Tie off yarn and weave ends.

Row 4 – 20: Repeat step 3 alternating colors each round. Keep going until the size of the triangle is big enough to reach your neck, cover your chest, and wraps under your arm a little.  I ended up with 20 rounds but add as much or as little as you need. We will add 3 more rounds to finish.

FINISHING ROUNDS:

Row 21: Connect your yarn as done in all previous rows. Ch 4. Skip the first Ch 1 space and DC 3 in the next space (this space is right after the first DC 3 of previous row). This should start to square off the sides. Continue to [DC 3] in each space up the triangle until you get to the space before the Ch 2 space. (DC 3, Ch 2, DC 3) in this space. SC 2 in the Ch 2 space. (DC 3, Ch 2, DC 3) in next space. [DC 3] in the next spaces down the triangle until you reach the last space. Ch 4 and slip stitch to connect to the last DC from previous row. Tie off yarn and weave ends.

Row 22: Connect your yarn as done in all previous rows. Ch 4,( DC 3, Ch 2, DC 3) all in the Ch 4 space. [DC 3] in next spaces up the triangle until you reach the corner. DC 5 in Ch 2 space. (DC 2) in each of the next 2 Sc. DC 5 in next Ch 2 space. [DC 3] in the next spaces down the triangle until you reach final Ch 4 space. (DC 3, Ch 2, DC 4) in that last Ch 4 space. Tie off yarn and weave ends.

Final row: Connect your yarn as done in all previous rows. SC in the same stitch. SC in next 3 stitches. SC 3 in the Ch 2 space. [SC] in each stitch up the triangle until you reach the corner. In the 3rd made DC from the DC 5 of the previous row, SC 3 in the same stitch. SC 8. SC 3 in the same stitch. [SC] in each stitch going down the triangle. SC 3 in the Ch 2 space. SC in next 3 stitches. We will now create the border at the bottom. 3 SC in the next stitch. SC evenly across the bottom until you reach the end. SC in the same stitch as the first stitch you made on this row. Do not cut yarn.

STRAPS

Back Straps: Ch 4. DC3tog. Ch 70. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in every ch across. Connect back to the DC3tog. Tie off yarn and weave ends. Connect to the other side and repeat this step for the other strap.

Neck Straps: Connect to the top corner in the middle SC of the SC 3. Ch 60. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in every ch across. Connect back to the SC. Tie off yarn and weave ends. Connect to the other side and repeat this step for the other strap.

Weave in your ends and then…
